Academic responsibility among students of Biology
Abstract
The study aims to measure the Academic responsibility of the students of the Department of Biology in the Colleges of Education. The researchers adopted the descriptive survey approach. The research community included all fourth-grade students in the departments of the Biology department in the colleges of education for morning study in In the universities of (Karbala, Al-Muthanna, Al-Qadisiyah, and Kufa) for the academic year (2022-2023), the research sample was chosen in a simple random way, with (165) male and female students from the universities of Al-Qadisiyah and Karbala.The researchers prepared a tool to achieve the objectives of the research, which is the scale of academic responsibility, which consisted in its initial form of (40) items, which were distributed in six areas, namely (commitment to perform academic tasks and duties / self-control / bearing pressures and burdens / active participation with colleagues / belonging to the teaching environment Postponement of procrastination and postponement) in Likert’s five-graded formula, with weights (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) for positive items , and vice versa For the negative items, after verifying the face and constructive validity of the items of the scale And calculating the values of the discriminatory power of the items of the scale, and the Reliability of the scale was verified by finding Cronbach's alpha coefficient, which reached (0.866). The research tool was applied in the first semester of the year (2022-2023), and statistical analysis and data processing were carried out using (Microsoft Excel-10) and (SPSS-23), The study results showed that the students of Biology department possessed evaluative thinking skills., and there is no significant difference on the scale of academic responsibility according to the gender variable, the researchers made some recommendations, including: Paying attention to academic practices that increase academic responsibility among students, and holding workshops and courses for teaching staff in order to introduce the importance of academic responsibility and its development among students, which reflects positively on their scientific level. The researchers suggested conducting a similar study of academic responsibility among students. Preparatory and intermediate stage.
