E-commerce is small in the local job market in Diwaniyah city Analytical study
Abstract
The world today has witnessed an accelerating digital transformation in various sectors of life, as information and communication have become one of the most important environments for business at present. One aspect of this progress is the enormous revolution that occurred through the emergence of Internet technology in the field of shopping, which has directly affected the structure of the global and local economy. This study seeks to explore and analyze the nature of the impact of e-commerce on the local labor market, and to determine the extent of the changes that have occurred in traditional jobs versus the newly created opportunities.
The study employs a descriptive-analytical approach to data collection and comparison of economic indicators for the employment sector before and after the rise of digital commerce. It examines two main hypotheses: the first posits a negative impact of e-commerce, resulting in the shrinking of traditional retail jobs and the closure of some stores; the second posits a positive impact, creating an entirely new job ecosystem based on digital skills. The study concludes that digital transformation does not eliminate jobs entirely, but rather reshapes them, posing a significant challenge to the local workforce to enhance its digital proficiency. The study also recommends updating educational and training curricula to align with the demands of the new market and enacting legislation to protect workers in the emerging digital economy sector.
